VELO3D ships largest purchase of Sapphire steel 3D printers to aerospace customer

certification

Californian steel 3D printer provider VELO3D has introduced the biggest get of its laser powder mattress fusion (LPBF) Sapphire method.

The corporation will provide an added four 3D steel printers to an undisclosed aerospace purchaser, bringing its mounted base of Sapphire programs to a overall of nine. Benny Buller, CEO of VELO3D, mentioned, “We are excited to see buyers ramping with Sapphire’s SupportFree abilities.”

“It is distinct from consumer feedback on our first deliveries that the demand from customers for SupportFree, generation ready, Sapphire metal 3D printers is powerful and that we are exceeding expectations for the know-how.”

Sapphire™ 3D Metal Printer Overview

The Sapphire System

The Sapphire Process, introduced in 2018, is intended for high quantity producing with a 315mm diameter by 400mm peak establish envelope. It allows engineers to make components with overhangs lower than 10°, and massive internal diameters with no supports. It also attributes large throughput dual kW laser operation and an integrated in-situ approach metrology that makes it possible for closed loop soften pool management.

VELO3D’s Flow computer software, intended especially for its Sapphire Technique, works to determine predictable print outcomes working with an built-in simulation motor. Most not too long ago, the Stratasys Direct Manufacturing service expanded its metallic additive producing certification abilities with the Flow software and the Sapphire 3D print method.

Aerospace and additive manufacturing certification

At the business start of the Sapphire, VELO3D announced that an aerospace OEM had presently acquired units to produce additive made rocket elements. The supply of the 4 supplemental units is expected to be finished by the conclusion of the calendar year.

In addition, last month, VELO3D announced a partnership with Boom Supersonic, a Colorado-based aerospace company, to 3D print flight hardware for the XB-1 aircraft. This latest collaboration will permit the generation of intricate components able to withstand the stresses of supersonic aircraft.
