German rail company Bombardier Transportation has mounted a Stratasys F900 3D printer at its Hennigsdorf facility, north-west of Berlin.
The F900 FDM/FFF printer will be applied for the manufacturing of tooling, prototyping, and end-use pieces for trains and trams. The sections will be incorporated in Bombardier’s producing functions for DACH nations such as Germany, Austria, Switzerland.
André Bialoscek, Head of Vehicle Physical Integration Hennigsdorf at Bombardier, mentioned, “The Stratasys F900 3D Printer allows us to widen our support providing in such a way that we are now able to 3D print large spare areas, custom-made rail sections, and producing equipment – all in-property and on-demand from customers.”
On the tracks of Bombardier Inc.
Founded in 1942, Bombardier commenced as a manufacturer of snowmobiles. The company is now worldwide and one particular of the major brands of aircraft, trains, commuter subways, public buses, and other industrial motor vehicles like snowcat, a tracked vehicle for relocating on snow.
Bombardier Transportation is a rail machines division of Bombardier Inc. It manufactures passenger trains, locomotives, chassis for trains, controls and propulsion programs. In 2001, Bombardier Transportation obtained the German rail equipment maker Adtranz from DaimlerChrysler. With this acquisition, Bombardier Transportation turned the premier rail equipment maker.
With the installation of the Stratasys F900 3D printer, Bombardier Transportation expects major gains. Bialoscek stated, “Having formerly used fiberglass and tin for prepare factors, the potential to now use ULTEM 9085 resin meets our application standards and requires us to a new stage in terms of reducing the fees and lengthy lead instances connected with all those standard products.”
3D printing certification in railway
With initiative’s this sort of as this from Bombardier, the Mobility Goes Additive project from Deutsche Bahn, and a commitment from Angel Trains and ESG Rail it is safe and sound to say that 3D printing certification’s application on the railways is getting traction.
Including more perception Andreas Langfeld, President EMEA Stratasys, mentioned, “Bombardier Transportation’s financial commitment in our F900 3D Printer is synonymous with the big interest we’re seeing in the mobility sector for industrial-quality 3D printing certification options […] We glance forward to performing closely with Bombardier Transportation to assistance the deployment of this technologies inside their operations and empower them to develop personalized rail components on-desire – a lot quicker and far more price-successfully than at any time right before.”
“Our FDM-based mostly additive manufacturing certification technologies presents rail companies and routine maintenance provider suppliers state-of-the-art, rail-certified products, massive establish trays for even bigger rail areas, and importantly, the optimum stage of print trustworthiness and repeatability in the industry.”
